Good Grades Barry!

CNN's lunatic grade everything festival on the anniversary of 100 days of the Obama administration. All of this voting on everything by people who have nothing else to do, are doing it while driving, or like me are doing it while working is nuts! Our founding fathers were prescient: they invented the electoral college for precisely this reason!

Fortunately the Big Boss got great grades. Since I was a permanent substitute in his fifth grade class, I thought I would say, Good Job, Barry -- Hana Hou Barack. Alternately,

Dear Mrs. Dunham
We wanted to report that your grandson, Barry, who now goes by his given name Barack, is doing an incredible job as president of the United States.

As you know, he now has critics instead of teachers, but he still managed, in his characteristic way, to get great grades and have people raving about his abilities. He's a natural star, but he was lucky to have you all that time.

Aloha, Gloria Garvey

Congratulations on 100 Days

This is a picture of my brother and his family. His son, Gregory wrote me that they couldn't wait to "brag all over the republicans." when he won the White House. Two budding Democrats --- their parents, and me ---

We couldn't be happier that Barack Hussein Obama is our President.

God Bless Barack Obama, his family and everyone on the planet.

First Dog Has Arrived

Who knows when the 6 month old portuguese water puppy arrived? The secret was leaked early, although word is it was supposed to be an exclusive for the Washington Post,to be released on Tuesday (because they didn't get the scoop on the garden).

The dog was named "Bo" by the girls -- and was a gift from Teddy Kennedy.

We'd send Poi Dog shampoo, but it would never get to the kids, I bet. Anyway, how cool for them to have a dog. Imua, Malia and Sasha!

WE love you Back

Under gray skies, the motorcade rolled past troops standing at attention. "It was wonderful to see the troops out there," Obama said. "I'm so grateful, they put their heart and souls into it."
Inside a marble palace, he was interrupted repeatedly with cheers from the troops.

"I love you," someone in the crowd shouted out. I love you back," the commander in chief replied. Scores of troops held digital cameras above their heads, snapping pictures and recording video of a day they would long remember.

Brains & Values (Plus he's cute)

Differences are a fact of life. We need to get over ourselves.

Barack today in Turkey: "The U.S. is not and never will be at war with Islam."

Remember everyone, Gandhi said: "God has no religion."

I am so proud of our President and First Lady

I was glad that Clinton was elected, thought it was a joke when George Bush was elected the first time, then couldn't believe that he was elected a second time (anger, frustration).

I remember crying when Hubert Humphrey lost the race to Nixon. I was at college and the war was raging; Julie Nixon was at Smith too and David Eisenhower was at Amherst across the way. I came from what I believed to be a very apolitical family, which turned out to be very Republican.

At Smith, I became a democrat forever. As a child, Hubert Humphrey's niece was one of my best friends, and so I had watched his career very carefully. Also, I was guilty about having thought Nixon to be the right choice when Kennedy won. And I really believed he would end the war.

All of this just to say, I am so proud of our President and First Lady, and I hope all of us can step up to the plate and act as civil and as intelligently. I watch him, I watch her, I listen to them, I see who they are and I am proud. I find myself always smiling, and feeling content that America no longer looks stupid and mean to the rest of the world. Because we aren't.
Imua Barack!

Success in Europe

Hana Hou!

Aloha e from Hawaii to Barack and the G-20! Even though Dali Lama wasn't there, I hope his lifetime work for peace among people may have energized this group.
